A New Kind of Stay

A crescent moon in a twilight sky behind blurred dark tree branches

I spent a few days in Copenhagen without much of an itinerary. Most of the time was spent walking, stopping at bookstores, galleries, cafés, furniture shops, and whatever happened to look interesting along the way.

What stayed with me wasn’t one particular place but the consistency of small decisions. Signage that doesn’t demand attention. Materials that are allowed to age. Interiors that feel considered without becoming precious. There’s a quiet confidence to many of these spaces that is difficult to reproduce intentionally.

I started photographing details rather than landmarks: a number painted on a doorway, the typography on an old storefront, the way a chair had been positioned next to a window, stacks of books, construction markings, menus, packaging. None of these things were particularly remarkable on their own.

Looking back at the images later, however, patterns started to appear. Similar proportions. Muted combinations of materials. A preference for simplicity that still left room for personality and imperfection.

Travel is useful in that way. You leave your usual visual environment and suddenly become more aware of decisions you would normally ignore. The collection here is less a guide to Copenhagen and more an archive of those small observations.
